Who Should The Celtics Take In The 2018 NBA Draft?

Not a bad couple of years from Daniel R. Ainge. But please, keep telling me “Danny can’t draft!”

With rumors flying all over the place, the Celtics know how to keep their fans entertained. Even without a pick in the top of the draft for the first time in a couple of years, the Celtics have been linked to players from top to bottom.

The reason for that is because, in the last couple of days, there have been rumors from local and national media that the Celtics have been contacting teams to move up to number 4. I have heard that they are targeting either Luka Doncic or  Mo Bamba. While I don’t see that actually happening, who knows what trader Danny is going to do.

Another rumor I keep hearing is that Michael Porter Jr. is going to fall out of the top 10. While I am not convinced that is going to happen, if he falls to 12, the Celtics ABSOLUTELY need to contact the Clippers who have both 12 and 13. With back to back picks, they might be willing to part with one of them. Don’t forget, the Celtics do own the Clippers 2019 first round pick (if the pick falls outside top-14). How much would the Clippers value getting their pick back?

Now let’s forget about the rumors. At 27, there are going to be plenty of names that could be on the board for the Celtics to grab and add to their bench for next season. Here are the top 5 people I want Boston to select at 27.

  1. Mitchell Robinson C (N/A)

Robinson a year ago was a 5-star recruit heading to Western Kentucky and without messing anything up, was likely to be a lottery pick. Well, things got messed up. He left Western Kentucky and decided to spend the year training for the draft. Then to make things weirder, he pulled out of the combine. Obviously, his stock has fallen and he is no longer a lottery lock. However, the talent is still there. The 7 footer is a talented shot blocker, moves like a wing, and has flashed 3 point range. If he is still on the board at 27, he is the guy who can be the Celtics Center of the future.

2. Donte DiVincenzo SG (Villanova)

3. Anfernee Simons G (IMG Academy)

4. Moe Wagner PF/C (Michigan)

5. Bruce Brown SG (Miami)
