The Bruins announced Wednesday that forward Patrice Bergeron, along with defensemen Adam McQuaid and Kevan Miller, will not travel with the team to face the Blue Jackets in the season opener on Thursday. Bergeron is listed as day to day with a lower-body injury. McQuaid suffered an upper-body injury and is also day to day.
Don’t look now! But the Bruins are off to a hot start!!! Not only do we have 2 starting (really only 1) Defensemen out with injuries, but now Patrice Bergeron is not making the trip with the team to Columbus! Just the way you want to kick off your season that you are going to get back on track and make the Playoffs again! Oh I am also leaving out the fact that Frankie Vatrano, who was expected to be a top 6 Forward for this team also is on IR and is expected to miss for 3 months!
Injuries happen, and there is nothing you can do to stop them. So the good teams have to be prepared. So lets look at the Bruins back up plan as they look to start the season tomorrow against the Blue Jackets.
It looks like the Bruins will bump Backes into Bergy’s role on that line with Marchand and Pastrnak. Which sucks because I really wanted to see how that Marchy – Bergy – Pasta line was going to gel. Also I am bummed because I wanted to see how the Bruins were going to revolutionize the game by going with the 3 Center lineup of Spoons – Krejci – Backes.
A little positive sign on the injury front is that it looks like Austin Czarnik is back to healthy after getting nicked up the other day.
I also find it interesting that they are bumping up Danton Heinen, rookie out of Denver, up to the Krejci line. He was a dynamic player at Denver who was a big time goal scorer but also was a dependable 2-way player. They must think he has the upside to be a top 6 player if they are going to bump him up there instead of say Beleskey, who would fit that Power Forward role that Krejci excels playing with.
When looking at how the Bruins are replacing the injuries on the back end, here is the Defensemen pairings from practice yesterday:
Lets face it, the Kevan Miller injury is a blessing in disguise. I have NO idea why they resigned Miller. None at all. Look at all the young Defensemen that the Bruins have that need playing time. There is a lot. Everyone wants to give up the farm for a young Defenseman, why not try to see what you already have? I had no idea why Collin Miller did not play more last year. None at all. So hopefully he gets consistent playing time. Also, I love that Brandon Carlo and Rob O’Gara have forced their way into this line up. Carlo is going to be a freak. Obviously he might have some growing pains at first, but he is going to be a beast on that blue line for the Bruins for years to come. If I know anything about this Bruins organization, I know that when they let their young guys take a low jersey number, that means that this guy is to stay. And would you look at that…
Hmmmmm Carlo and Miller switchin it up. I love to see it. Kevan Miller, take all the time you need buddy. Tomorrow starts the season for the Black and Gold and for the love of god lets make it a good one.
