Well would ya look at that. Jimmy G is ‘reportedly’ not going anywhere. Now the question is, do you believe that? Do you honestly think that the Patriots will turn down any offer for Jimmy or do you think they are saying this because they haven’t been offered their asking price yet?
Personally, I think they just haven’t hit their asking price. I mean if they can get something that they think is worth Jimmy, like that 12th overall pick, I think they do it. As much as I wish it timed up well, Jimmy G is not going to be the starter in New England. Brady isn’t slowing down in the next year, and you are not going to convince Jimmy to stay. And they way they manage their money, they are not going to franchise a backup QB. I like Jimmy a lot, I think he could be someone who could be the Pats next QB for the foreseeable future, but Brady is playing at too high of a level and means too much to this team to let him go.
Brady isn’t going anywhere and that means Jimmy must go. So does that mean you keep Jimmy as insurance if Brady goes down and let him walk at the end of the year and collect a 3rd round comp pick? Or do you cash out on Jimmy G now and get a haul for him? I would trade him and the only reason I do that is because he is not going to stay here. If there was a way to make it work and have him stay here I would keep him. But realistically, Jimmy is not resigning to stay a backup. So cash out now.
